My Bing Commercial

Sometimes Evelynn reminds me of a Bing commercial. One word leads to another so that in the end, her whole monologue might not make much sense.

This seems to be the latest concept she has learned in verbal communication. The stage where she explains  something, gives advice or gives directions. They are more like monologues as they are usually said without pausing and without any participation on my part. One of her constant monologues is about her upcoming birthday: "My birthday will be soon. I'm going to have a Gollum cake. Frodo and Sam will be on it, too. It's a Lord of the Rings birthday. There will be candles on my cake and I will blow them out. Like this 'Poof.' And then the fire will be gone. It will be great."

She enjoys giving advice. She heard me cough today and this was her advice: "Mama, you coughed? You need to take some cough medicine. You need to watch that cough and take your medicine. It tastes good. You need to watch your feet, too. If you don't, you will slip and fall. That wouldn't be nice. You might hurt yourself. You need to watch your shirt, too. 'Cuz it could get stuck on something. All right, Mama? Say, 'Yes, Evelynn.' Ok?"

As she learns other things, she is very perceptive in explaining how a thing is done. She can give step by step directions and almost always wraps up the monologue on a positive note. "This is how you fold a towel. Let me show you. You fold it like this, and then like this, and then like this. And it's perfect." Or "This is how you draw your hand. Let me show you. You put your hand on the paper like this and draw around all your fingers. Then you move your hand and you drawed your hand on the paper. It looks great!"
